Custom Cabinetry and Built-Ins in Sycamore

Stock cabinetry fits stock spaces. Real homes have angled walls, sloped ceilings, awkward alcoves, and rooms that need storage built around how the family actually lives. C & H Construction and Remodeling designs and builds custom cabinetry and built-ins in Sycamore — kitchens, libraries, mudrooms, window seats, entertainment walls, closets, and home offices made to fit your house and look like they were always there.

Why Custom Cabinetry Is Worth It

Custom cabinetry does two things stock can't. It uses every inch of the space — ceiling height, awkward corners, depth that doesn't match standard cabinet boxes — so storage doubles or triples in the same footprint. And it looks integrated. Built-ins designed and installed correctly read as architecture, not furniture pushed against a wall. The result is a room that feels finished rather than furnished, holds more than you thought it could, and adds visible value to the home. For families with collections, hobbies, or storage challenges, custom built-ins are often the difference between a cluttered room and a calm one.

OUR PROCESS

1

Consultation

We look at the space, talk about what you want stored or displayed, and how you want the piece to look. Style, wood species, finish, hardware — all on the table.

2

Design

Detailed shop drawings showing every dimension, every door style, every interior fitting. You approve the design before anything gets cut.

3

Fabrication

Cabinetry is built in our shop (or by a vetted shop partner depending on scope and finish), then dry-fit before delivery

4

Installation

On-site installation by our finish carpenters, scribed to walls, leveled, and trimmed in so the piece looks original to the room.

5

Final Walkthrough

We confirm every door, drawer, and adjustable shelf works as designed and address any final adjustments.

What Affects the Cost of Custom Cabinetry

Three scope tiers cover most projects:

Refresh: A single built-in piece — a window seat, a small bookcase wall, a mudroom bench — in a paint-grade material with standard hardware.

Mid-Range: A larger built-in or a small kitchen worth of custom cabinetry, in a stain-grade hardwood or higher-end paint finish, with soft-close drawers and quality hardware.

Full Custom: Full kitchens, libraries, or whole-room built-ins in premium hardwoods or specialty finishes, with custom inlays, integrated lighting, and specialty hardware.

Wood species, finish complexity, and hardware selection drive cost more than overall size.

Cabinetry FAQs

How long does custom cabinetry take?

A single built-in typically runs 6 to 10 weeks from approved design to installation. A full custom kitchen runs 10 to 16 weeks. Most of that time is fabrication, not on-site work.

Can you match existing trim or cabinetry in the house?

Usually yes. We can match profiles, stains, and paint colors closely enough that the new work blends with the old. Exact matches on aged finishes get harder, but we're honest about what's achievable before you commit.

Painted or stained — which holds up better?

Stained finishes hide wear better over time. Painted finishes look cleaner and more current but show nicks and chips sooner, especially in high-traffic areas. We'll talk through the tradeoff based on where the piece is going.<
