An unfinished basement is the single biggest piece of underused square footage in most homes. C & H Construction and Remodeling turns Sycamore basements into family rooms, home theaters, gyms, guest suites, offices, and full in-law setups — with proper moisture management, code-compliant egress, and finishes that don't feel like a basement.

A finished basement is the most cost-efficient square footage you can add to a home, because the structure, foundation, and roof are already there. You get a place for teenagers to disappear with their friends, a real guest suite for visiting parents, a home gym that doesn't take over the garage, or a media room built for actual movie nights. Done correctly — meaning moisture handled, insulation right, egress installed where required, ceiling heights respected — a finished basement adds livable space that the family uses every week and that pays back when the home eventually sells.
Before we design anything, we look at how your basement handles water. Existing seepage, sump performance, and humidity all dictate what can be finished and how.
Layout, ceiling treatment, flooring, lighting, bathroom or wet bar if included, and how the space connects to the rest of the home. Egress windows get planned where bedrooms are involved.
Finished basements require permits in most jurisdictions, especially for electrical, plumbing, and any new egress windows. We handle that paperwork.
Framing, insulation, electrical, plumbing, HVAC adjustments, drywall, flooring, trim, and final finishes — sequenced so the rest of your house stays clean and accessible.
We test every system, confirm the space meets code, and close out punch list items before final sign-off.

Three scope tiers cover most basement projects:
Refresh-Level Finish: Open rec room, drop ceiling or simple drywall, basic flooring, lighting, and trim. No bathroom, no kitchenette.
Mid-Range Finish: Defined rooms, half or full bathroom, upgraded flooring and lighting, possibly a wet bar or office nook.
Full Custom Finish: Full guest suite or in-law setup with bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, separate entrance if feasible, premium finishes, and integrated AV or built-ins.
Moisture remediation, egress window installation, and ceiling height limitations can shift any tier.
Sometimes yes, but the moisture has to be addressed first — interior drainage, sump upgrades, exterior grading, or sealing depending on the cause. Finishing over an unresolved moisture issue is how mold problems start.
Almost always. Electrical, plumbing, framing, and egress windows all typically require permits. We handle that for you.
Yes, but legal bedrooms require a compliant egress window or door. We size and install egress windows as part of the project when needed.
